Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an umbrella term for people with chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or both. With COPD the airflow to the lungs is restricted (obstructed). Usually caused by smoking, symptoms include cough and breathlessness.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a programme of exercise and education for people with long-term lung conditions provided by the NHS and, in some areas, privately.​
