Integrated Children's Services

Health Visitors are qualified nurses or midwives with additional training in promoting family and community health. Health Visitors work within the Public Health Nursing Service and may include registered community nurses and Community Nursery Nurses trained and experienced in child health and development. They provide a supportive role under the guidance of the Health Visitor.

Health Visitors visit newborn babies and pre-school children in order to undertake child reviews and provide advice to parents/carers. They also undertake ante-natal visits in order to meet expectant mothers prior to the birth, liaising with midwives.

Health Visitors have also a central role in visiting and supporting children who have additional needs, including safeguarding needs. They work closely with children’s centres.
